Lazer Tech is seeking a Director of Platform Engineering who will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's platform within Lazer's Microsoft Azure ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience and be expected to take on hands-on responsibilities to build and optimize scalable cloud infrastructure, drive automation,
and ensure reliable and continuous delivery pipelines. As a senior leader, you will work cross-functionally with engineering teams, product management, and operations to develop platform strategies aligned with business goals while remaining technically engaged with the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing Platform Engineering team.
- Define the platform engineering vision, strategy, and architecture for cloud solutions within Azure.
- Collaborate with other engineering leaders and product managers to align platform architecture with business and technical objectives.
- Develop and monitor KPIs to assess the performance and reliability of the platform.
- Manage vendor relationships related to cloud services and tools.
- Design and implement scalable and reliable Azure-based solutions, including networking, computing, storage, and security services.
- Hands-on coding and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to automate infrastructure and platform processes.
- Oversee the infrastructure as code (IaC) practices using tools like Terraform, ARM templates, or Bicep.
- Lead by example in troubleshooting critical platform issues, guiding root cause analysis, and providing resolutions.
- Implement continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Azure DevOps or other tools.
- Ensure security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), data encryption, and monitoring, are integrated into platform designs.
- Drive operational efficiency through automation, monitoring, and alerting strategies.
- Collaborate with development, data, and product teams to build scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructures.
- Maintain compliance with security and regulatory standards within the platform (e.g., SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, etc.).
- Drive cloud cost optimization initiatives and manage the Azure budget.
- Keep abreast of new Azure services and trends, implementing relevant innovations into the platform.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 10+ years of experience in engineering, platform operations, or DevOps roles, with 5+ years in a leadership capacity.
- Hands-on experience with Azure cloud services (compute, storage, networking, security, etc.).
- Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform, ARM, Bicep).
- Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly in Azure DevOps.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, C#, PowerShell, etc.).
- Strong understanding of cloud security, monitoring, and compliance.
- Familiarity with containers and orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert) a plus.
